Reading list

levi.jpg Saving Levi is a story about a young Chinese boy, dumped at birth, suffering horrific burns. Villagers found him in a field - all reluctant to provide him the  help he desperately needed. Eventually, an elder picked him up and sought help, starting a chain of events which saved him. “The baby left to die would bring together people from different countries and cultures in the battle to save his life.”

Wicked Lovely is  part of a new generation of books in urban fantasies - where humans and faeries meet and cross paths. Since I have to read it, a quote: “Aislinn walked a little faster - not running, but faster. If she ran they’d chase: faeries always gave chase……. now the faeiries are stalking her.”

In A Whole New  Mind, Daniel H.Pink proposes that the future belongs not to lawyers and accountants, but instead to those in the population with the ability to create - the ‘right-brained’ thinkers of the world. Designers, inventors, teachers and storytellers. “If it’s likely that someone in China or India can do your work more cheaply, or if a computer can do your work faster than you can, READ THIS BOOK”. I plan to - really soon.

twilight.jpgTwilight - Stephenie Meyer - an intriguing tale of a young girl’s relationships in a new town, and the power of the extraordinary. Bella moves to live with her Dad in a small town and develops some surprising friendships - and falls dangerously in love.

I am already looking forward to the books which follow - New Moon and Eclipse.

abcbook.jpgAmerican Born Chinese - Gene Luen Yang - a graphic novel which tells three parallel connected tales.

Yang cleverly tells the struggles of fitting in (experienced by many children of immigrants), using ancient fable and modern times with intriguing links. Fabulous introduction to the graphic novel!

gervay.jpgThat’s Why I wrote this Song - Susanne Gervay. A young adult tale written to combine the talents of mother and daughter - Susann’e writing skills and her daughter’s songwriting talents. Story and song are cleverly woven, and there is access to video of the songs on Susanne’s web site. A new direction for Young Adult fiction?

Non designer’s Design Book - Robin Williams. Great advice and How-To’s for those of us who would like to inprove their design skills - on paper, the web or elsewhere. Clear analysis and lots of Aha moments throughout the book.
